Biokeralty stands out as a benchmark at the international funding conference for R&D&I in Health

Biokeralty Research Institute played a prominent role in the ‘Information Day on Funding Opportunities for International Collaboration in R&D&I: HEALTH’, held at the SPRI Auditorium in Bilbao. The main objective of the event, organised by Innobasque (Basque Innovation Agency) and the SPRI Group, was to encourage Basque organisations to participate in international collaborative R&D&I projects in health.

Success stories: IN-ARMOR and OPADE

Ángel del Pozo, Deputy Manager of Programme Strategy at Biokeralty, took part in the session to present the organisation’s track record as a model of success in obtaining European funding and transnational cooperation. During his presentation, he detailed the progress of two key projects:

  • IN-ARMOR: A project that proposes a paradigm shift in the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Instead of using traditional antibiotics, this initiative seeks to boost the body’s innate immunity through host-directed therapies.
  • OPADE: Focused on major depressive disorder (MDD), this project uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to optimise the prescription of antidepressants, analysing biomarkers in the microbiota-gut-brain axis to improve the remission rate in patients with major depression.

A bridge between research and care

Biokeralty’s participation in this forum reinforces its position as a bridge between the European Research Area (ERA) and the healthcare and social reality of the countries where the Keralty Group operates. As highlighted during the conference, Biokeralty’s work is aimed at boosting R&D&I processes in areas of research.

Promoting open innovation

The event also featured the collaboration of the CDTI (Centre for Technological Development and Innovation), the Basque Health Cluster, BIOEF (Basque Foundation for Health Innovation and Research) and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, addressing calls for proposals for Cluster 1 on Health, the European Union Cancer Mission and EU co-funded partnerships. Biokeralty’s presence underscores its commitment to open innovation and networking with international partners, sharing scientific and technological knowledge for the benefit of society.
